Many people do not realize that the male foreskin and the female clitoris
are healthy parts of human genital anatomy and that they have function and
purpose. Surgically altering the sex organs permanently reduces or eliminates
the natural protective, sensory and sexual functions of the genitalia.
Many people do not know that infant male circumcision is not medically necessary, is not recommended by any national health organization in the world and is a violation of the child's human rights.
Many people believe that part or all of a female's genitals should be removed so she will be cleaner and more desirable to her husband.
It is estimated that one in 2000 babies are born with ambigiuos genitalia - that it cannot be determined by physical examination if the child is male or female. Many of these children have their sex determined for them by a physician or their parents. Some parents choose to permanently change the apperance of their child's genitals to make them appear male or female when in fact, the child may feel more like the opposite sex.
These and many other facts about normal genitalia
and circumcision are rarely given to parents by their physicians before
they are asked to sign a consent to circumcision form. The amount of scientific
evidence against circumcision today is so great that it can no longer be
ignored. With the help of MUSIC, more people will get the information they
need to make a truly informed choice.
